Microsoft Teams recently made a small but meaningful improvement to its meeting pre-join screen. When the screen opens, keyboard focus now lands on the Join button. If the selected settings are to your liking, I usually leave it as Mic Muted with Camera Off, press Enter to join the meeting.

One control provides the essential details

In my use of Microsoft Teams desktop on Windows, the Join button also continues to give my screen reader the current microphone and camera states. I can confirm those settings without moving to each toggle on the screen. If I want to change either setting, I can still use Tab to reach the controls.

It's a quick win for everyone

Placing focus on the primary action removes unnecessary keystrokes for keyboard users. Reporting the microphone and camera states from that same control gives screen-reader users the information needed to make a confident choice. Everyone can enter a meeting a little faster.

Excellent work by the Microsoft Teams team. This is a simple, practical improvement that saves time every time someone joins a meeting.

As you all likely know Microsoft features roll out gradually, so if you aren't finding the same experience... just wait longer.
